Chairman of the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society (HKACS)

Mrs. Chu was previously the Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department, Chairperson of Social Workers Registration Board, Chairperson of Equal Opportunities Commission, a Member of the Sub-committee on Privacy under Law Reform Commission and a co-opted member of the Welfare Sub-Committee of the Community Care Fund.

Mrs. Chu had worked at the Social Welfare Department for 34 years. She is renowned in the social welfare profession for her dedication, in particular, her contribution to development of family and children work. After retirement from the civil service, she had served as the Associate
Director of the Family Institute of the University of Hong Kong (HKUFI). and instrumental in the overall development of the HKUFI, actively involved in the planning and teaching of the Master of Social Sciences ( Marriage and Family Therapy) program offered by the Institute.

She is currently the Chairperson of the Consortium of Institutes on Family in the Asian Region, and chairman of the Asian Academy of Family Therapy, as well as a member of the Family Council of the HKSAR and convenor of its sub-committee on Family Support, vigorously promoting family work in Hong Kong and Asia.

Mrs. Chu was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the HKSAR Government in 2000 for her contribution to the social welfare field. She was honored with the Rotary Centennial Service Award for Professional Excellence by Rotary International District 3450 in celebration of Rotary’s 100 years in 2005 and received a Distinguished Alumni Award in the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of HKU Social Work Education in 2010. She was appointed a Justice of the Peace from 1997 to 2003.

Mrs. Chu is a Registered Social Worker. A graduate of the University of Hong Kong, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968 and awarded a Master of Social Work degree in 1975.
